WSJ Looks at Nursing Home Evictions

An article in the Wall Street Journal examines a growing trend in nursing homes: eviction of sick and frail residents in spite of federal law that allows evictions for a only a limited list of reasons.
The article, "To Be Old, Frail And Evicted: Patients at Risk," cites NSCLC's recent study of nursing home admissions agreements in Missouri. The study, authored by Eric Carlson, found that one in five Missouri nursing homes granted itself the right to evict residents without cause. Almost half the agreements authorized eviction for residents who become "uncooperative and unmanageable," "unduly noisy," "objectionably untidy" or for other reasons not permitted under federal law.
